It’s always sad when a tree falls in a storm. Luckily this old hickory fell away from my uncles house, barely missing the chicken coop. We’d go on to chop up most of the tree for firewood but I saved this cookie from the base of the trunk. After it dried, I flattened it by hand and fixed the splits with a couple of hand-carved walnut bowties. Attached are three american made steel hairpin legs. Finished with a satin polyethylene. It now sits in our reading nook.
